What packaging AI can do, and what it cannot
Packaging AI means two things: AI that inspects and sorts packages on a production line, and AI that helps design them. Here it means design. It is good at ideas and weak at exact numbers, so use each for its job.
Where packaging AI helps
- ConceptsMany visual directions for a new product before you commit to one.
- Color and imageryPalettes, illustrations and backgrounds that match the mood you describe.
- MockupsA first look at the design on a box, pouch or jar, for feedback and pitches.
- Names and taglinesDrafts to react to and rewrite, not final claims.
Where it needs exact tools
- Box structurePanel sizes, flaps and glue tabs that fit your board thickness: the dieline generator.
- Barcodes that scanBar widths, quiet zones and check digits: the barcode generator.
- Nutrition FactsFDA formats, rounding and % Daily Values: the nutrition label generator.
- Required wordingIngredients, allergens, net quantity and state statements: the food label maker.
- Readable small textImage models often garble small type, so set brand and legal text as real, editable type.
How to use packaging AI from idea to print
A workflow that keeps AI packaging ideas and print files apart until the end. Each step links to a free tool.
- 01
Pick the structure first
Choose the box or label and its real size. Start from a box template or the dieline generator.
- 02
Explore ideas with AI
Generate concepts, colors and imagery. Our AI design tools are coming soon; any image AI works for this step today.
- 03
Set the text yourself
Type the brand name, claims and required wording as editable text, not as part of an image.
- 04
Add the regulated parts
Add the Nutrition Facts panel, net quantity and a UPC barcode at a size that scans.
- 05
Check the fold, then export
Fold the dieline in 3D and export a vector PDF with bleed and separate cut and crease lines.
- 06
Ask for a proof
Send the files to your printer and approve a proof before the production run.
Start from a box template
Tuck end boxes, gift boxes with lids and drawer boxes. Open any template in the dieline generator to change its size.

What is packaging AI?
Packaging AI is software that uses machine learning for packaging work. In design, it turns a text description or a photo into concepts, artwork and mockups. In production, it inspects and sorts packages on the line. Pack AI Studio is about design: AI for ideas, exact tools for structure, barcodes and labels.
Which AI is best for packaging design?
Judge AI packaging tools by the job. Does it know the box structure? Can you edit the text? Does it export a vector PDF with bleed? Can it handle Nutrition Facts and barcodes? What does the free plan allow? Image AI is fine for mood and concepts; the final files need a real dieline and real type.
How do I use AI for packaging design?
Pick the structure and size, generate ideas, set the text as editable type, add the Nutrition Facts panel and barcode, check the fold in 3D, and export a PDF with bleed for your printer. The steps above link to a free tool for each part.
Is Pack AI Studio free?
Yes. The barcode, nutrition label, dieline, box template and label tools are free, with no signup, watermark or upload. The AI packaging design tools coming next will be paid features.
Are the files ready for print?
The tools export vector PDF and SVG, plus EPS for barcodes and nutrition labels and 300 dpi PNG. Dielines keep cut, crease and bleed on separate layers. Check your printer’s specifications and approve a proof before a production run.
Do I need an account?
No. An account adds cloud saving for the nutrition label, dieline and label tools, so you can open a design on another device. It also lets you try the AI tools first when they open.
Are the nutrition labels FDA approved?
No label is. FDA does not approve food labels before they are sold. The nutrition label generator follows the formats and rounding rules in 21 CFR 101.9; the numbers and claims on your label are your responsibility.
Do I need GS1 for a UPC barcode?
For retail in the United States, yes: UPC numbers come from GS1 US, as a single GTIN or a company prefix. The UPC barcode generator draws the barcode and checks the digit for your number; it does not issue numbers.
What does packaging an AI file do?
In Adobe Illustrator, File > Package copies the .ai file with its fonts and linked images into one folder, so a printer gets everything. It is a different thing from AI design tools.
When will the AI packaging tools open?
After the free tools are complete. Create an account now to save your designs; you will be able to try AI packaging design as soon as it opens.
